Among items discussed at the March 11 Charleston County Council meeting was making public the salaries of county employees.
Councilman Paul Thurmond requested that all salaries and wages of county employees be made available for online viewing.
Some council members did not like this and thought it could lead to friction among employees as they became aware of differences in pay.
There was also a matter of law which allowed for those earning below $50,000 a year to be published in salary range – instead of stating a specific dollar amount.
County Council ultimately agreed to publishing earnings for those earning more than $50,000 a year.
