Where Government Gets Exposed

Charleston County OKs CARTA Budget

The NerveThe Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority submitted its 2011 budget during the Charleston County Council’s July 8 finance committee meeting and after some discussion it was unanimously approved.

Executive Director Howard Chapman gave a brief summary and noted that the operations budget was little different from the previous year, at least in total.

While there was a large drop in the contribution from the half-cent sales tax allocation, this had been more than made up by federal grants.

The operations budget can be found here; the capital budget can be found here; and the debt-service budget can be found here.

Chapman reported that ridership this year was running about 7 percent higher than during the same period last year.

He also said that CARTA had taken delivery of 11 new buses and was in the process of commissioning them.
