Education official Donald Tudor describes during the Sept. 8 state Board of Education meeting how one bus driver’s failure to follow procedure earlier this year resulted in the complete loss of a 78-passenger school bus valued at between $20,000 and $30,000.
The Department of Education was able to charge the unnamed district $500, but had to pay the remainder itself. It had no right to take action against the driver who disobeyed guidelines, Tudor said.
