Lexington 1 ranks 50th among South Carolina’s 85 school districts in terms of spending per student, allocating $9,178 per pupil, Chief Financial Officer John Butler said during a June 21 school board meeting.

Lexington 1 spending is among the lowest among schools in the Richland-Lexington county area and the district would need to spend $26.8 million more annually, for example, to catch up to what Lexington-Richland School District 5 spends, Butler added.
