Editor’s Note: The following account was submitted by Judy Adams of Oconee County and her husband, Nerve Citizen Reporter Brit Adams, about their recent attempts to convince Sen. Thomas Alexander, R-Oconee, to voluntarily submit a form disclosing his private sources of income as part of “Project Conflict Watch,” launched last month by the South Carolina Policy Council, the parent organization of The Nerve.
Our discussion went like this with Sen. Thomas Alexander, R-Oconee: We personally handed him the income-disclosure form and asked him to fill it out and return to SCPC. He said he would look it over and then said he understood that the ethics bill also discussed “income disclosure.” Brit and I further told him that this was simply doing what the federal representatives had to do, together with 47 other states, to which he said, to best of our recollection, that he was not aware that the majority of states do this.
To follow up, I sent him emails asking him to not forget to fill it out, and told him that senators in surrounding Anderson and Pickens have already done so. I have not heard back from him. He did not give us the impression he was against it, but that he would look it over.
