State Sen. Tom Davis tells a Midlands-area high school class that he believes part of South Carolina’s problems come from arrogance on the part of its elected officials.
“Our problem is we think we’re smarter than everyone else once we get elected. It’s almost like once you get elected you get 30 more IQ points and you can sit up there and make these decisions and I think that’s what’s holding us back.” Davis adds that government doesn’t create jobs. “Government creates the playing field and the environment for industry to come in,” he says.
