By most accounts, suspended House Speaker Bobby Harrell ruled the chamber with an iron rod. (A metaphorical one, that is.) How else can one explain the fact that, during a roughly 16-month investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division and a state grand jury, not a single House member would utter a peep of criticism of Harrell? As one lawmaker remarked when The Nerve asked him if he planned to support Harrell in the next election, “When the king has a guillotine to your neck, it’s kind of hard to go against the king.” Not exactly the same metaphor, but you get the point.
